YouTube now requires creators to have twice as many watch hours to start earning money
Why it matters
The monetisation bar moves to 8,000 qualified watch hours over twelve months, or 20 million qualified Shorts views over ninety days, double the previous threshold. Existing monetised channels are unaffected, but the entry point for emerging creators becomes materially harder to clear. The survivors reach for brand money earlier in their trajectory.
