Why it matters
BYD plans to adapt technology developed for a Japan-exclusive mini-EV platform for a new model aimed at Europe. A market-specific engineering programme is being treated as an export asset, amortised across regions faster than incumbents typically manage. The transferable lesson is not about batteries: a programme built for one market becomes a passport only when it is documented well enough to be lifted.
