At Honda, weak yen drives record quarterly profit but also bigger EV pain in restructuring payouts to suppliers
Why it matters
Honda posted a record quarterly operating profit of 3.28 billion dollars on favourable currency effects, while booking an extra 3.21 billion dollars in EV restructuring charges. Most of that compensates suppliers who invested ahead of electric plans that have since been scaled back, and the weak yen inflates the bill because those suppliers are largely in North America. The whole Japanese cohort is now publicly paying for the gap between announced ambition and actual demand.
