A SpaceX rocket smashed into the Moon and NASA just revealed the crater
Why it matters
A spent SpaceX upper stage hit the lunar surface on 5 August and NASA has now imaged the crater it left, roughly 18 metres across. Hardware abandoned in high orbit eventually comes down somewhere, and the Moon has no atmosphere to slow it. The mark is permanent.
