The BBC says it will pay 50,000 pounds for YouTube-first documentaries
Why it matters
The BBC has opened a commissioning call under its deepwatch vertical for documentaries built for YouTube from the start rather than adapted afterwards, aimed at the 16 to 24 audience, at 50,000 pounds per title. A public broadcaster with unlimited access to its own channels choosing to commission natively for someone else's platform is the interesting part. It also puts a public price on platform-native long form, which is a rare and usable reference point.
